Student internships are a unique feature of the NEOMFA’s curriculum, and each student is required to complete three credits in an internship class. These required internships provide work experience in several different areas which may lead to employment opportunities after graduation. This can be in a more structured setting through the Wick Poetry Center’s “Writing in the Community” class, or students can opt to design their internship with an organization of their choosing.
Our students have:
created literary programming in the Cuyahoga National Parks
worked with local library systems to promote literary programming and events
taught creative writing in schools, prisons, hospitals, and nursing homes
served as teaching assistants for creative writing classes
taken positions with local newspapers and media outlets
worked with local reading series and literary organizations to offer classes and assist with content and programming
worked as editorial interns through our university presses and literary centers
assisted with productions at the Cleveland Playhouse and Cleveland Public Theater
These internships provide work experiences in arts management, in the teaching of creative writing, and in the promotion and marketing of literary events. We expect our graduates to contribute to the literary life of the region and the cultural life of the community.
For more detailed information about the variety of internship options please speak with your Campus Coordinator, and check out our upcoming structured internship here.
